Overview
The Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is an active cleaner and will set up shop on live rock and wait for fish to come be cleaned of parasites and dead tissue. Many fish even allow the Cleaner Shrimp to clean inside their mouths without harm.
This Shrimp is often found in groups on the reef. In the aquarium, the Cleaner Shrimp needs a similar environment and peaceful tankmates. Fish like Hawkfish and Lionfish or predatory shrimp and crabs may see them as food.
Cleaner Shrimp are intolerant of copper-based medications, high nitrate levels, and fluctuating water parameters. They need to be drip acclimated to your system.
